FAQs
We would recommend having your panels cleaned once a year. We have plenty of customers who are on a maintenance programme whereby we clean their solar panels every year to keep them running at full capacity. If you wish to make the most out of your solar panels then it is essential to have them nice and clean to generate as much output as they are able to.
We do not ask our customers to shut off panels to clean them. They can if they so wish, but it is not a requirement. We ensure that our operatives are wearing thick rubber gloves and rubber soled boots which help to protect them from any unprecedented and unlikely electrical shocks.
Pressure washers are great for cleaning many parts of the exterior of your home, including your paths, patios, driveways etc, but it should never be used on solar panels. Yes, their high reach and pressure makes cleaning most things a lot easier and faster, but doing so runs the risk of damaging the PV panels.
Softwashing is truly the only way to completely effectively kill all biological growth when it comes to roofs, render and all surfaces. Steam cleaning / pressure washing are able to achieve great results with most surfaces but to get to the root of any spores and bacteria requires chemical treatment. Most roof manufactures will recommend low pressure steam cleaning and / or soft washing treatments as non aggressive methods of roof cleaning.
